    ACL Injury

Named Best Physical Therapy Practice by Arlington Magazine's readers in 2021

There are over 100,000 ACL injuries and tears in the US every year. Female athletes are 8-10 times more likely to injury their knee due to multiple risk factors including lack of core strength, proximal hip muscle weakness, and lower extremity proprioception/balance deficits. This can equate to over 2 billion dollars of health care costs. ACL prevention and education can help to reduce these numbers and costs.

Equilibrium between strength and stability in the lower body kinetic chain is vital for prevention of injuries in the female athlete. Core stability is also necessary in order to provide a stable base for lower kinetic chain motion. In addition to strength and stability, research has shown that neuromuscular training to improve jump landing mechanics can significantly reduce injury risk from 24-82%.

AKPT has developed a comprehensive ACL program that ranges from post op rehabilitation with return to play testing to complete ACL prevention program including dynamic warm up, proper jump landing technique instruction, running/gait analysis, plyometrics and agility training.

Post op rehabilitation for ACL reconstruction is comprehensive and will provide the athlete to full return to sport. AKPT will provide interval return to play testing based off the latest research. A progressive agility and plyometric program customized to the individual will assist in the return to sport goal. In conjunction with proper communication with your physician we can help all athletes all ages return to their pre injury level.
